In this story of the woman, there is a confirmation of the revelation that Jesus is the source of life, the living water. The adulterous womanexperiences new life through Jesus who liberates her from the unfaithful and sinful life. She is a person who comes to Jesus and drinks from him. Second, the attitude of Jesus to the woman and his demand from the Scribes and Pharisees manifests that he is the light of the world. Jesus sees the woman differently from the Jewish leaders because he can see the heart. The woman experiences light. The Jewish leaders who brought her to Jesus are in darkness but they pretend that they see. Jesus made them realize that they are blind until they see themselves in the light. So this scene is a preparation and anticipation of the theme of John 8: 12-59 and a conclusion of the theme of John 7: 1-52.
