The second chapter of the Gospel of John according to the evangelist is usually considered the beginning of the ministry of Jesus. There are two events narrated here. They are:
i. The changing of water into wine, and
ii. Declaration of the impurity of the temple together with the prediction of the new temple.
John 2 has an introductory function, when interpreted comprehensively in terms of presenting a synthesis of the ministry of Jesus. The actual beginning of the ministry of Jesus is in John 3: 1ff.
