3rd Week of Advent (17th December, 2018)

First Reading: Gen 49:2, 8-10 (Your brothers will praise you)
Gospel: Mt 1:1-17 (Genealogy of Christ)

Today’s Gospel is Mathew 1: 1-17 which describes 42 generations from Abraham till Joseph, father of Jesus.

Some Bible Scholars have explained that majority of the predecessors of Joseph where kings but we will find some of them with a lesser repute. They also explain that Jesus is not born from Joseph. Hence any impurity in Joseph’s genealogy does not hinder the purity of Jesus.

In the genealogy of every person, there will be good and bad. It is something unique that Jesus could determine his ancestors and not anyone else.

A person of a lower repute can still be proud of the king’s in his or her Lineage.

In our lives we do come across people boasting about their tradition and their family reputation.

What matters is how one lives and follow the commandments of Jesus. Our lord was born in a manger as a son of a carpenter. So, it is not on the status that matters but how we lead our lives.

In this advent season let’s go, move a little closer to the manger and let Jesus be born in our hearts. Amen.
