With utmost simplicity Luke narrates the birth of Jesus: “And she gave birth to her first-born son …” (Lk 2:7). The evangelist introduces it with a note of ‘fulfilment’ suggested by verse 6. Luke 2:7 describes three events: –
- Mary gave birth to her first-born son;
- She wrapped him in swaddling clothes; and
-
She laid him in a manger.
