Luke 2:6-7 – Birth of Jesus: Part 1 of 4


With utmost simplicity Luke narrates the birth of Jesus: “And she gave birth to her first-born son …” (Lk 2:7). The evangelist introduces it with a note of ‘fulfilment’ suggested by verse 6. Luke 2:7 describes three events: –

  1. Mary gave birth to her first-born son;
  2. She wrapped him in swaddling clothes; and
  3. She laid him in a manger.
