4th Weekday of Advent (24th December, 2018)
First Reading: 2 Sam 7: 1-5, 8b-12, 14a-16 (Kingdom of David)
GOSPEL: Lk 1:67-79 (Zechariah’s prophesy)
In the gospel of Luke today the very presence of Jesus in the womb of Mary fills Zachariah (father of john the Baptist) with the holy spirit and he prophesied as follows:
Blessed be the lord god of Israel who has visited his people to rescue them to give us salvation. He would save us from our enemies. And would show mercy to our ancestors. He will free us from fear and he will be called the greatest prophet. And will go before the lord to prepare the way by forgiveness of sins and will give light to who are in darkness and guide us to peace.
Tomorrow as we celebrate Christmas, its often a celebration than enrichment of our hearts.
We are taught to cleanse the inside of the vessel rather than the outer.
As we prepare ourselves to celebrate this Christmas, let us praise god like Zachariah did. May this Christmas be made a God given opportunity to enhance our souls through the power of holy spirit.
Two things happened in Zachariah’s life.
One, was to become a father after a long wait and then to be the father of the greatest one born to a woman. This happened because of the presence of the holy spirit through Jesus Christ. For this Christmas let’s all long for the holy spirit through the presence of infant Jesus. Amen.
