Honesty and Humility

Christmas Tide (2nd January, 2019)

Saint of the Day: Sts. Basil the Great & Gregory Nazianzen

First Reading: 1 Jn 2:22-28
Gospel: Jn 1:19-28

In the gospel of John today, the Jews were keen to know who John the Baptist is? for their questions, the reply was “I am not the Christ”, “I am not the Elijah.”

John confirms “I am the one whom Isaiah prophesied about.”

Isiah was a prophet of 8th century B.C.E., who said:

“A voice that cries in the wilderness:
Make a straight way for the Lord.”- (Is 40 – 3)

John baptised in water and the one who is amidst the already is the Christ and john is not even worthy of tying HIS sandals.

Here what we can observe and follow is the honesty and humility of John.

Many of us when we tend to lose something or when we have a potential gain, we tend to lie, without even we being aware about it. That is to say we are habituated to telling a lie. This is what our children observe and follow, thus creating another generation of dishonest people.

Most of the time, there is a tendency for us to boast about our achievements or making claims so as to show that we are great people in front of others. Again, for our children to follow.

Let’s learn from John the Baptist the honesty and humility and try to implement it in our lives. Amen.
