Enhance our faith

4th Sunday of Ordinary Time (3rd February, 2019)

First Reading: Jer 1:4-5, 17-19
Second Reading: 1 Cor 12:31 – 13:13
Gospel: Lk 4:21-30

In today’s Gospel of Luke, Jesus reads the script which was given to him in the synagogue which was from Prophet Isaiah and Jesus concludes by saying that the scripture is being fulfilled today by HIS reading it.

People who listened to Jesus were amazed by the grace filled words that Jesus spoke. Finding it difficult to accept what he said, they immediately compared him and said that he is carpenter Joseph’s son. Then Jesus in exclamation said” a prophet is not accepted in his own hometown… things that happened in times of Prophet Elijah and also during the time of prophet Elisha, when only Naaman the Syrian was cleansed from his leprosy, no one else. When the people heard this, the y were furious. They wanted Jesus to be out of the town and wanted to get rid of him.

When someone does something good it is very difficult for us to accept. Do not know whether it is because of the lack of faith or jealousy that people respond in this manner. We always have a tendency to highlight what we know of that person and not connecting to what has happened or what good things he has done just underplaying the greatness of a person and his deeds. Is it that at the back of our minds, we lack in faith and we don’t completely believe? We start doubting… Is it true? Or is it possible? At the end of it, who are the losers? We are the losers….

Certainly, we would have lost a great deal of blessings due to our lack of faith.

This is the time for us to ponder over and make a decision that when something good happens, to appreciate it and acknowledge the person who is capable of doing it. Amen.
