Let the good in us, come out

5th Week of Ordinary Time (13th February, 2019)

First Reading: Gen 2:4b-9, 15-17
Gospel: Mk 7:14-23

In the Gospel of Mark today, Jesus is telling the people that it’s is not what goes into a man what makes him unclean, but what comes out.

Let those who have ears to hear, let them hear.

HIS disciples questioned Jesus because they did not understand. Jesus explained that whatever we eat, does not go into our hearts, rather goes into the stomach and passes into the sewer.

(Thus, proclaiming all foods as clean)

Jesus continues…it is what comes out of our hearts that makes us unclean. i.e. Evil intentions like theft, murder, adultery, envy, slander, folly or any other which makes the man unclean.

The other day, I was watching a short video where the message is: what comes out when we are squeezed. If an orange is squeezed, orange juice comes out. At times it is sour and at times it is sweet. Each orange has its flavour, which can be tasted, when squeezed.

Our true colours come out, when we are pushed to the wall.

It could have been influenced by the surroundings we were brought up or the friends circle in the teen age and adult hood (birds of the same feather flock together).

Whichever may be the case, we are as good as what we speak and do, nothing is more important than that. In order to speak good and do good, our thoughts should be righteous.

Listening, reading and pondering the word of God will certainly improve us each day. Let’s read HIS word for sometime every day and make it a habit. Amen.
